Matilda was the daughter of Thomas Turner and Elizabeth Jane Turner (nee Bayliss). Matilda’s father, Thomas Turner, worked on Rawdon as a labourer. She was first married to Thomas Hatton, a labourer on Dabee, in 1864 at Rylstone. Thomas subsequently moved to Rawdon although several years later they were living at Coomber Melon as farmers and labourers. Thomas died from consumption in 1876. Matilda and Thomas Hatton had five children but only four survived into adulthood. The children were: Elizabeth Jane (died aged 4 years), William Henry, Ellen Maria, Maude Grovner and Thomas Meyers Hatton.
Matilda married Charles Alexander
Salmon about 1878 at Rylstone. Matilda and Charles Salmon had three children:
Charles Alexander, Stella Hortensia Matilda Australia Alice, and Matilda Selina
Salmon. Matilda Salmon died in 1927 and Charles Salmon died in 1902. Both are
buried in Rylstone cemetery although neither have headstones on their graves.
Matilda and Thomas Hatton are the
great great grandparents of Daniel Hatton.
